Whenever I watch a film, I take screenshots of instances I find visually appealing. From this habit evolved an ever-expanding archive of film stills from which I select whenever I need a reference for a drawing.
By removing the images from their moving, cinematic context, they are no longer defined by the events that happen before and after the moment they represent. Thus, they open up to several interpretations of the same image.
In the works, I explore subtleties in the body language and gazes of the characters and within mise-en-scène in order to deduce what is still suggested about the situations when frozen in time. The drawings allow me to identify with the female characters and examine personal fears and fantasies in a fictional setting.
